Jose Rivera, President of the Fairmount Civic Association in Philadelphia, newly married, and a proud homeowner, wanted a work of art that would reflect all of that, in the whimsical style Jose is known for. He asked for an old-fashioned daguerreotype pose of him and his new bride, Paula, in old fashioned costume. I used some wedding photos of Jose and Paula, researched turn-of-the century photography (see below) and chose a Victorian gown for Paula. I made sure to include her lovely family pearls. A large canvas with rich colors suited this work.
Jose: I laughed out loud with pleasure when I saw the painting. Carol got our likeness exactly! And the costumes, she went above and beyond!
Paula: The details and colors in this painting are so beautiful. I love it more each day.
